Wait a second.. Reboot. Start a blog

By Caleb Spilchen On April 3, 2010 Under Teenage Blogging

A blog.. Also know as a weblog, the people who write them are called bloggers!

Ok, so in my last article I told you how to monetize your blog.. I guess I missed a vital part.. How we start the blog.. So I thought we might be able to go through that today..

So first you’re probably going to want to buy a domain for the blog, I would recommend name.com because they have always been the cheapest for me.

Then you’re going to want a web hosting company, to host the data for you. I would say do a google search to find the best one.

Now, you have your hosting set up, you need to decide on which blogging software to use on your website.

The most chosen one being wordpress, which you can download here.

Once, you extract the files, upload to your new web server, and then follow the instructions in the readme to install.

So now we have our blog setup. There are a few things we should do before we add content to our blogs.

Recently I asked users on a Webmaster Forum, what they do once they install wordpress. See here for the question.

I really wanted to come up with a list of ten, but those people kept arguing with me so here’s the list of ten things you do after adding wordpress:

  1. Upload Your Theme – Choose a theme and put it online (Others delete the first post, at this point)
  2. Change the Permalink Structure (Settings/Permalinks) to something SEO Friendly.
  3. Delete Post by WordPress Bot
  4. Delete Blogroll links
  5. Setup Theme Features (Some themes have ads etc)
  6. Add theme thumbnails if needed
  7. Add Posts and links
  8. Personalize everything
  9. Add a contact form plugin
  10. Add an about me page

Of course there are many other things you’re going to want to do; I just thought I would share this list with my users who are new to blogging.

So get out there and just blog!
